MONDESI HAS MONSTER DAY FOR DODGERS

Raul Mondesi was 4-5 with 6 RBI's Monday as the Dodgers came from behind to defeat the Diamondbacks in the season opener for both teams.

Kevin Brown started the game for the Dodgers against Randy Johnson, in what was anticipated ot be a marquee pitching matchup. However, Brown allowed 5 runs on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings. All runs given up by Brown came on Diamondback Home Runs, including 2 solo homers by Bernard Gilkey, and a 3 run homer to SS Jay Bell.

Randy Johnson fared much better, allowing only 2 runs on 5 hits through 7 innings. However, the D-Back bullpen could not hold the lead.

With 2 out in the 9th inning, D-Back reliever Greg Olson gave up a 3 run homer to Mondesi to tie the game. Two innings later, once again with two outs, John Frascatore served up a 2 run dinger from Mondesi to win the game. Jeff Shaw got the win for the Dodgers.
